Midwinter Song

Snow flies fierce across the land
as cardboard doors unfold,
a star shines clear on bitterness,
on lack and want and cold.
An old tale tells of spite's true cost,
how greed's full rhyme is need.
The City's rime is piss and frost,
icesharp in word and deed.
A robin's breast, a berry bright,
is dimmed by falling night,
could starlight melt a frozen heart,
a baby make all right?
The oldest story's for the newest face,
a fire in winter or a moment's grace.
